"The
fast approaching storm carried a dusty smell. The dry cracks of
lightning across the sky, followed by the rumbling that sounded like
running buffalo warned the storm carried no rain. The medicine man knew
what it meant. The warm air the clouds hung on were quick moving, ready
to change the season as were the buffalo ready to return to the summer
pastures. Dispersing the buffalo over vast areas would mean the hunters
would have to work twice as hard to hunt. So, before the sun would rise,
he dances asking for a successful hunt as the rest of the men prepared
for the early morning outing. Once the storm cleared, in the morning
glow, the buffalo would begin there annual stampede. "
